The works

Recent work

In my recent work I am exploring more and more the possibilities of abstraction.

I am also interested in questions of scale and although I have made some relatively large works over the years I would really like to work on a more monumental scale.

I realise that this will be challenging but like all artists I am excited by new directions and unknown territory.

Diwali series

This collection of work is a response to the colours, sounds and noise of India and Kashmir as I experienced them.

The visual stimulus of these environments was at the time in stark contrast to the muted colours and calm coastal environment of the coast of Ireland where I grew up.

The multi coloured market stalls in New Delhi, the incandescent orange robes of the holy men, the breathtaking array of colours in the flower farms awakened in me a desire to explore the possibilities of colour.

The effect of this experience has stayed with me and I continue to be excited by the infinite possibilities of new colour associations in my painting.

Absract Landscape Series

This work is inspired by the blues, greens and greys of the Irish landscape. The way these colours blend and bleed into each other; sky into earth, earth into water, water back to sky, is a constant
theme and motif in my work.

As in the rest of my work these painting are not attempts to render
images of specific places or forms but more the moods and emotions that these places engendered and reflected: These mysterious places where one is not certain where the sky ends and the sea
begins.

Where one is not as much a spectator of the landscape but more an element within it.
